SGT. CLAUDE STANDRIDGE

#1069

In 1972, Sgt. Claude Standridge was on patrol and performed a traffic stop. While engaging with the suspect, the suspect retrieved a firearm and fired at Sgt. Standridge multiple times in the face, neck and stomach.

Sgt. Standridge underwent multiple surgeries and physical therapy. Sgt. Standridge could not return to work due to his injuries.

On March 4, 1998, Sgt. Standridge passed away without ever recovering from his injuries. Early this year, Dallas Police Chief Edgardo Garcia declared Sgt. Standridge died on duty, declaring that his injuries would prove to be the result of his death.

Today, officers from across the region praise Sgt. Standridge’s determined vision to return to work, overcome his obstacles and personified sacrifice in the name of duty.
